I want...

This comes out on 5th November - can it be *any* coincidence that my birthday is the 7th November?

It's 100 book jackets, as postcards. I don't know whether I'd stick them on the wall, use them as bookmarks, or just rifle through the box smiling - but what a unique and brilliant idea on Penguin's behalf. Present-givers, take note. (Though also maybe confer amongst yourselves. I don't want twelve sets of this come November).

But by the time you read this it will be Our Vicar's Wife's birthday. Happy birthday Mum! I made a cake, but it looks something of a failure... not the oven I'm used to, and all that. Still, might taste good, and as Mum says - at least she didn't have to bake it herself.

  2. P.S. Simon, are you sure that the postcards wont just be 100 orange covers? That is pretty classic for Penguin .... Hmmm, I've probably made this worse, now someone will HAVE to buy it, just so you can check!

  4. Flipping through those postcards would be a little bit of sunshine on a rainy day, okay - any day. Birthday wishes to your Mum from Canada!

  7. Simon, I noticed this on Cornflower's blog and immediately added it to my wishlist (my birthday is in March so I'm thinking Christmas gift).

I notice that neither of us have contemplated actually sending the postcards to people!

Happy Birthday, OVW! I'm sure the cake will be delicious.

  8. Oh, imagine the fun you (we all) could have deciding which title to send to which friend.

What's that? You weren't planning to send any?

  9. I can see I'm going to have to get *two* lots of this... one to keep and one to send.

  10. I have difficulty deciding to send some of the cards I buy - okay, many of the cards I buy. The considerations include: "Will the recipient appreciate this card (as much as I do)?" "Does this person deserve this card?" Needless to say, I have an overabundance of cards on hand.

  11. In googling: Postcards from Penguin -
looking for sample images I noticed a link to WHSmith, Free with orders over 15 pounds. I didn't follow up on the link to see what all is involved.
