What I'm Reading; or, How Googling It Quickly Led To The Most Surreal Website Ever

I'm currently reading Diana Tutton's Guard Your Daughters, recommended years ago by my friend Curzon, and which I will be enthusing about more than you can imagine.  I'll be hunting you down and making sure you read it if you have any affection for I Capture the Castle.  But I couldn't resist posting a link... I googled Guard Your Daughters and not many people have written about it, but it does feature in a photo blog called 2 bison, where the photographer takes photos of everyday objects and two small bison... see here, and marvel.  (And make sure you click on '2 bison' at the top of that page, to see what else has been given the same treatment.)

(Oh, and have you read Guard Your Daughters?)

  2. I found a ratty old copy about a year ago and handed it on to a friend. It's now made the rounds to several people, but hasn't been given back to me. It's a wonderful, quirky little book, and I'm surprised it's been out of print for so long. makedoandread

    1. Lovely to know someone else who knows it! Have you blogged about it?
I shall be doing my zealous best to spread the word... and I haven't even finished it yet!

  3. Hah, I love the bison! Also the tagline of the website - Why? Why not? Hard to argue with that! No, I haven't read Guard Your Daughters, and will be interested to see your review. I think if I do read it, I'll always have an image of bison in my head as I'm turning the pages.

  6. Hi Simon,
I have a lovely early edition of Guard Your Daughters with dust jacket - yet I haven't read it! I seem to remember trying to read it several years ago and thinking it was rubbish. Should I have another go?? I was thinking it might be one to donate to the collection...

    1. Hi Anon! Well, I don't know what your reading tastes are, but... do you like I Capture the Castle? I really can't imagine anybody liking that and not liking GYD. If you try again and fail, do pass it on to someone who loves ICTC!

    2. It's Erica here! Stupid blogger did not like me so I ended up being anon. Thank you very much for mentioning the special collection and project - I'm working hard on preparing the materials to open the project out to the bloggosphere. Should be up tomorrow!
