Time and Thievery

Too tired to write it tonight, but just a heads up on the fact that tomorrow I'll be talking about Markus Zusak's The Book Thief. I did a quick Google image search, and discovered quite an astonishing variety of covers which the book has had. Before I start chatting about what I thought of the contents, let's look at some covers? The bottom left one is the one on my copy, but I love the dominoes edition. Which strikes you most?

  1. Your copy is the one I've seen around here. The top right cover is spooooky!

  2. I've got the top right one as it was the version first published in Australia. I'll be interested to hear what you thought about the book.

  4. I kind of like the bottom right. The one I have is the dominoes cover and I like it all the same.

I don't like the top right with the blood splatterings! Eerie.

  5. I agree with Darlene that the top right one is creepy. My favourite is the bottom right one but I own the bottom left.

  6. I much prefer the Australian version (top right). I find it striking, rather than scary. Especially considering how well you get to know the character of "Death" depicted on the cover.

  7. oooo, can't wait. I'm reading this book to possibly do an essay on it in uni, would love to know what other people think. I have the bottom left cover. I love how playful he looks. Lx

  8. Bottom right has the best picture, I think, but the typography is poor.

  9. Interesting - Librarything.com is a good source for various covers - have you been on that site before? Whenever I blog about books, I just don't feel right unless I find the cover *I* had. But, I do always wonder, why do they release books with varying covers (usually by country) ie. Harry Potter???

  10. This book was one of those, as with the Harry Potter series, that was read by both adults and junior readers so there were alternative covers. Amazing variety. I rather like the one on the top right but I have the parchment coloured one

  11. I really like the bottom right image especially for its tagline. I've seen this book a lot in blogs, and with really good reviews but kinda forgot about it for awhile. Thanks - it's going into my TBR list right now. :-)
