I am halfway through. It is a gentle, rather elegiac read, with the emphasis on atmosphere and character rather than plot. In this regard I would compare Jansson with McCall Smith: both authors write pleasurable prose which is a delight to read, but you are emphatically not drawn along by Plot. On page 31 (Sort Of Books edition) there's an exchange about film which could easily be about books!
