Our discussion of retitled books the other day segues neatly into a quiz I wrote for the Oxford Dictionaries blog - can you identify the early titles of famous novels? It's HARD. Come back and let me know how you did! The quiz is here.
Only 3/10, and two of those were the Jane Austen questions. The novel featured in question 4 was particularly surprising, who on earth thought that title would make sense. This quiz also started me wondering whether "and" or "of" has appeared more frequently in fiction titles?
I am pathetic -- I think I only got 3 or 4 of them. However, I soldiered on and tried the last lines of books, and scored 9/10 even though I mostly guessing!!
6 out of 10 - which I thought was pretty good. I have to admit that a couple of those were guesses.
ReplyDeleteDismal - I only got 4 out of 10! Ah well - I suppose there's no reason I *should* have known them all!!
ReplyDeleteOnly 3 for me!

ReplyDelete2/10 and it doesn't worry me in the slightest!

ReplyDeleteOnly four out of 10! All were guesses, however, except the Ford Maddox Ford question. I knew the answer there. That was totally fun. Thanks Simon!
ReplyDelete6 out of 10 - I am amazed. Apparently I am a very good guesser. ;-)
