2.) The blog post - Melwyk over at The Indextrious Reader has started up a really interesting Postal Reading Challenge - reading books with postal themes (e.g. collections of letters - those of you who got excited about Maxwell/Welty or Maxwell/Warner collections could jump on board!) Head over here to find out more.
3.) The link - I just wanted to remind you to WATCH THE LIZZIE BENNET DIARIES if you're not already. (A re-telling of Pride and Prejudice through vlogs - I first wrote about here.) It's got so good recently - and Lydia Bennet's channel is also brilliant. Mary Kate Wiles (along with the writers) has really fleshed out Lydia to be a very sympathetic, thorough character, rather than the silly, flighty girl that Lizzie sees (and thus that we see in the novel.) Lydia's channel is here, and Lizzie's is here. There are quite a lot of videos to watch, but I'll make it easy for you to start - here is ep.1 of Lizzie's channel.
The LBD made me so happy this week! And Lydia's videos have been breaking my heart recently, though the most recent one...well, let's just say I think Mary Kate Wiles has the best job in the world right now. I almost dedicated a post on Friday to talking about the show(s) and why everyone needs to watch them but went with a predictable book review instead, so am happy to see you spreading the word once again!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yes, she's not got much to complain about, has she? It's all so INTRIGUING at the mo. Please do blog about it...
DeleteOh yes, the Lizzie Bennet diaries. Thanks for the reminder, Simon. I started off watching them and gorged on about 30 episodes, and I loved them. But once I got through the backlog, I got out of the habit of watching regularly.
ReplyDeleteSo, oh joy, more backlog!
hurrah! Some of them are a bit slow, but the most recent ones have been very exciting - and there's one I've not even watched yet...
DeleteI did check out the Lizzie Bennet diaries based on your earlier recommendations and I was hooked. But to be completely honest, I think the pacing is a little slow and there is a lot of annoying 'girl-talk' but its still fairly intelligently written. "The Lydia" is pretty awesome
ReplyDeleteIt was slow for a bit, but the pace has definitely picked up in the last few - and I'm endlessly impressed by how they've depicted The Ly-dee-ah!
DeleteOh - agree, agree, agree on LBD! I must have watched episode 78 nearly 10 times. And I wondered what you thought of the Pemberley handling. Glad to hear you're still enjoying it :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Three out of four of my family are hooked, actually...
DeleteI loved the video which ended "Pemberley Digital... now why does that ring a bell?" So teasing...
Thanks for the mention! And for the reminder that I really must catch up on the LB Diaries.
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome :)
DeleteI've fallen off watching the Lizzie Bennet Diaries in the past month or two, but really enjoyed what I saw up until then. I'll have to spend one night this week catching up!
ReplyDeleteA definitely fun night in!
