Update on Comments... or what to do in the Face of Peril and Troubles

[this page has been edited to be used as a comments-help...]
I've changed the way comments work - they are now on the main screen, rather than a separate window.  You are able to reply to individual comments (this will bring up a new window - simply add your comment after the HTML string.)

People have reported problems, of not being able to see other people's comments.  This mostly seems to be the case with Internet Explorer - I recommend downloading the all-round-nicer Firefox or Google Chrome!

If this isn't working please do email me (simondavidthomas[at]yahoo.co.uk) or tell me on the Stuck-in-a-Book Facebook page.

If people are still having problems, I will have a rethink...

  1. It looks good and works for me, but I'd be especially interested to know how you managed it. I didn't know you could have inline commenting with blogger.

  2. @KarynBut I see that my gravatar hasn't appeared. Just checking if it does when I choose a different profile.

  3. It does look good, I would love to have inline commenting on blogger. I'm with Karyn, how do you do it?

  4. @Cat I am hunting, but I can't re-discover the website that told me how to do this! It did take ages of hunting the first time, I should really have bookmarked it... It wasn't simple, let's put it that way. It definitely took some poking around with HTML!

  5. Found it! Tutorial at this link (not for the entirely HTML innocent, but also, if I managed it, so can you!):

  6. Hi Si

I don't seem to be able to see other people's comments in this revised system - except the latest ones in the sidebar.

  7. Well I posted a comment (using FF) and it didn't appear! Trying again via Chrome browser V15.0. Aha! This time I'm asked for a word to verify - so may be I get success. Under IE8 I couldn't even see any of the other comments.

  8. Further information. In my previous comment I should have said IE8 under W7. Using IE8 under XP I don't get problems.

  10. @savidgereads in which case you probably won't see this... but I'm not sure why it's not working for you! The guy who wrote the tutorial says it should work for every browser...

  12. Hi further update: a correction in my first post I mentioned IE8 under W7. My error! I should have said IE9 under W7.

    Apologies, DP

  13. I never mentioned this, but in Firefox I had to open a new tab to leave a comment - when it opened a new window/box before, nothing happened. Just a blank page. I think Firefox doesn't open the java box...
    Is that helpful?
This is better, it works now!

  14. Thanks Simon! Although it looks like it doesn't work for everyone... *sigh* maybe one day blogger will create a new commenting system?
