(Not long to enter my BAFAB draw.... scroll down a bit if you'd like to enter... draw will be Monday evening!)
A bit tired after a weekend with The Carbon Copy (only bought a couple of books - including the Persephone book Operation Heartbreak by Duff Cooper) so a simple question for you. Don't think I've asked this one before...
What is your favourite book with a colour in the title?
For my American readers, feel free to take a 'u' out of the word 'colour'... ;-)
Mine is shown in the picture. Click on it for a review of the book written earlier in the year - but to be honest, I haven't thought long and hard. Maybe there are others which should supplant it?
Colours of the rainbow, minus PINK!
ReplyDeleteA Man Called RED
Half of a YELLOW Sun
PINK?
Anne of GREENGables
ORANGES Are Not The Only Fruit
The Color PURPLE
White City BLUE
It's White City Blue, by Tim Lott that tops my list
It's really a short story, but I love 'The Masque of the Red Death' by Edgar Allan Poe!
ReplyDeleteAnne of GREENgables - me too. It's a childhood thing!
ReplyDeleteBother - The Colour Purple has already been mentioned. I love that story, even though it makes me weep. When I was younger I loved Wilkie Collins (I hate to think how many times I've read The Moonstone) so the Woman in White deserves a mention. Vikram Chandra's Red Earth and Pouring Rain is another great read that I really should re-visit.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get around to answering your Persephone question, but if I had Duff Cooper's Operation Heartbreak would have been high on my list. I thought it was a great book and not at all what you might expect.
ReplyDeleteHas to be, as with OVW, Anne of Green Gables!
ReplyDeleteI think my favourites would have to be The Black Book by Orhan Pamuk, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, The Little Black Book of Stories by A. S. Byatt, and The Bluebird Cafe by Carmel Bird.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have The Temple of the Golden Pavilion by Yukio Mishima and The Red and the Black by Stendhal on my TBR list.
Scales of Gold, Dorothy Dunnett
ReplyDeleteDavid Copperfield, Charles Dickens (though that seems a bit like cheating!)
The Scarlet Pimpernel, Baroness Orczy
The Wine-Dark Sea, Patrick O'Brian
Simon... email me for your BAFAB book, mate!!! jbrown14464 at yahoo dot com

ReplyDeleteIsn't a rainbow Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet?
ReplyDeleteI confess to using the Cilla Black version of the rainbow, but the TV weatherman (talking about rainbows yesterday) alerted me to
ReplyDeleteRichard Of York Gave Battle In Vane
A real rainbow has no colour "indigo" (it is not a spectral colour) Purple can be seen in the supernumary bands (alternating green/purple) that one can often see inside the violet edge of the rainbow. These are caused by diffraction rather than refraction.
