For what it's worth, I really preferred Hangsaman; it was hard getting into it at first, now I simply love it. Give it a chance and stay with it. It's definitely not what you'd think from the various dust jacket blurbs! I do love her creepy books, but my real joy is reserved for her family books - utterly sublime, and the ones I will return to time and again.StuckInABookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10017836017530130716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-80959475823192028392013-08-18T23:24:42.743+01:002013-08-18T23:24:42.743+01:00She was indeed very interesting! It's still one of my favorite books (and the movie version, the one with Julie Harris). I read her 'family' books, Life Among the Savages, etc., and laughed aloud, even when I read them more recently. I think she's an overlooked and versatile writer. Her life was pretty interesting, too.joan.kylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17015342608992682333noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-36870511399609156612013-08-18T01:26:49.560+01:002013-08-18T01:26:49.560+01:00Interesting to know Jackson is being reprinted. I've been saving it since I'm so very very excited to read it, and I'm trying not to get my expectations too high. I have read almost everything else she has written including her short stories which are so eerie and strange, and The Haunting of Hill House is definitely one of the scarier novels I have read, but could never justify the price for some of these more hard to find novels. Thank you - you have made my weekend :) BrendaBrendanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-62586041196371042072013-08-17T12:49:54.258+01:002013-08-17T12:49:54.258+01:00A local bookstore had Lottery Day yesterday. But earlier this year, my book group read 'We Have Always Lived in the Castle' which was fantastic. Perfectly strange and quirky and Jacksonish. Thanks for letting me know about the upcoming reprints!Helenhttp://www.helens365.tumblr.comnoreply@blogger.com
