The Miss Malletts is among them, but it may remain there, now. But I'm away to pull William off the TBR bookcase. (It's a very sorry-looking orange Penguin with no front cover, bought on the strength of my love of Miss Mole.)Pennyhttp://svh2.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-63338274771347438652011-09-13T12:08:37.711+01:002011-09-13T12:08:37.711+01:00Harriet - what a nice coincidence that we were bot...Harriet - what a nice coincidence that we were both reading this at the same time, more or less. As I've said on your post, I think we have essentially the same view of it, even though I was snarkier!

Mum - er, maybe!

Gill - Chatterton Square was the first one I bought, desperate to read it after reading a great blog review, and yet... I disliked it so much that I had decided not to attempt anything else by this author in spite of gushing reviews on this or other blogs. You've now given me the confidence to try again with Miss Mole.Marinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17313388635067433934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-71531023883064652522011-09-12T20:18:17.316+01:002011-09-12T20:18:17.316+01:00I loved Chatterton Square when I read it many year...I loved Chatterton Square when I read it many years ago - I'll have to re-read it to see if I still feel the same. My memory of some of PGW's characters is that their behaviour and perceptions were governed by their 'interior' condition. Maybe one should look at one's diet and factor that into the concept of what combines to create a 'reading environment'. Discuss!
p.s. my autumn diet is high on raspberries, stewed apple, and marrows-a-go-go!ovwnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-20997110839198762102011-09-12T08:25:41.132+01:002011-09-12T08:25:41.132+01:00Well, I will have to step forward as, though I agr...Well, I will have to step forward as, though I agree that it is not up to the standard of her later novels, I didn't dislike it as much as you did! I'll be fascinated to hear what the conference paper has to say about it -- meanwhile I shall be reviewing it myself very soon.harriethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04470091985662379182noreply@blogger.com
