I've not read it yet, but the previews available via his website (needwood.net) and, moreover, his beautifully crafted tweets (@richardsonmiles) suggest it is of a similar theme and quality.David Nolan (David73277)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16898875181095358216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-20147652922505408132012-11-03T14:22:24.185+00:002012-11-03T14:22:24.185+00:00

I too loved an Enid Blyton book when I was younger, though in my case in was The Faraway Tree. Some are old favourites of mine - Enid Blyton, Agatha Christie, Tolkien - and I've added both Waterlog and The Spiral Staircase to my TBR list. As always in "My Life in Books", it was lovely to hear the stories behind your choices and I especially enjoyed Tanya's mention of how her mom used to hide away reading Georgette Heyer when she said she was tidying up. That is exactly the kind of thing I could see myself doing!Claire (The Captive Reader)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07430380065718826213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-38239352731850699342012-10-31T19:40:04.980+00:002012-10-31T19:40:04.980+00:00Thanks for including me in this series - it is gre...Thanks for including me in this series - it is great to find out who my other half was and read Margaret's reasons for choosing her books. Margaret, I am a keen swimmer, and swam a lot in rivers and lakes when I was a child, which is partly why Waterlog spoke to me, but it has a lot to offer the non-swimmer too - although it might reinforce a dislike of cold water.

It's also lovely to meet, at least virtually, another admirer of Karen Armstrong, who is such a remarkable writer.Tanyanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-68574212349696982222012-10-31T13:29:21.577+00:002012-10-31T13:29:21.577+00:00I've only read a few of the titles you mention...I've only read a few of the titles you mentioned, but what lovely memories you have of how these books have been in your lives.Irenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15171389134207433317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-59238929865906369682012-10-31T09:59:42.455+00:002012-10-31T09:59:42.455+00:00Simon, thanks for including me in your series. The Spiral Staircase isn't a guilty pleasure choice, I picked it as a surprising choice because normally I avoid writing about religion - which is something that greatly interests me.Margaret @ BooksPleasehttp://www.booksplease.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-21063355383101057312012-10-31T09:27:24.656+00:002012-10-31T09:27:24.656+00:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15944565510049727932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-60536733246842279872012-10-31T08:13:58.339+00:002012-10-31T08:13:58.339+00:00Oh what lovely selections you have both made, espe...Oh what lovely selections you have both made, especially Margaret. I read the same books at similar ages to you, my responses were much the same, and I still read and re-read them. Haven't read this particular Karen Armstrong though, but I will hunt it out. Tanya, I liked your Barbara Trapido choice and reasons for picking it - it really is a wonderful book, even for people well past the young adult stage! And you've made me want to read Waterlog - thanks to other bloggers I'm discovering MacFarlane and Kathleen Jamie, so I'll add this one to the Wish List.Christine Hardinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09814026435889782750noreply@blogger.com
