I've had my eye on Classics For Pleasure for a while, so might have to nab that one day...StuckInABookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10017836017530130716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-37996221702315570792013-11-27T15:57:35.375+00:002013-11-27T15:57:35.375+00:00Ho ho ;) Very droll.Ho ho ;) Very droll.StuckInABookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10017836017530130716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-36223792583731221772013-11-27T15:57:23.243+00:002013-11-27T15:57:23.243+00:00I'd encourage you to have a quick flick throug...I'd encourage you to have a quick flick through if you spot it in a bookshop, Karen, as the style and fun and enthusiasm might just convince you otherwise ;)StuckInABookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10017836017530130716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-32464114116867273962013-11-27T15:56:06.425+00:002013-11-27T15:56:06.425+00:00It's definitely the wit and enthusiasm which c...It's definitely the wit and enthusiasm which carry it along, regardless of whether or not you agree with his opinions. The JA and Shakespeare was wonderful and even after reading it a third time I still laughed and smiled. I am so pleased you liked Beowulf on the Beach. Please do write more short fiction, you have a gift for the genre. Another good one is Read This Next by Howard Mittelmark and Sandra Newman. It has 500 suggested titles from all genres, and it is funny and irreverent at times. Also good is Michael Dirda's Classics for Pleasure, which doesn't mention Spark, but it does list Angela Carter, Elizabeth Gaskell, and (I thought of you when I read it) Ivy Compton-Burnett.Ruthiellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03871834571645928819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-86252261367612433152013-11-19T19:08:09.514+00:002013-11-19T19:08:09.514+00:00I would read this book but it isn't in the can...I would read this book but it isn't in the canon.Thomas Hogglestockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14284352537015457974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-446727280609751914.post-51959666106885286242013-11-19T14:57:09.098+00:002013-11-19T14:57:09.098+00:00Tricky one Simon! Have you read 'Brideshead Abbreviated' - John Crace's collected columns from the Guardian of his 'Digested Reads' - where he satirically sums up a novel and its style. I bought it some time ago, but - alas, haven't read it yet.Annabel (gaskella)http://gaskella.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
